This game is currently unavailable! This was taken down for maintenance after the Neopets transition in September 2014. It is unknown when, or if, the game will return.
Bilge Dice is a game of skill and luck. On your turn, you roll 6 dice, and aim to get the highest total amount in order to win. You play against three vicious opponents: Grimtooth, Deadeye and Monty. You need to beat these three in order to win and earn Neopoints.
Instructions
To play Bilge Dice, first you must place an ante amount. If you are playing for the avatars, I would suggest that you use the 10 NP ante. Then, you will be presented with the game screen which will look similar to the screenshot below.
Your goal is to "keep" a 1 and a 4, and then go and get a total as high as you can get (e.g. You can get a 1, 4, 6, 6, 5, and 4 to score 6+6+5+4=21); that means that your big goal is to get 24, the maximum score. If you are unable to get a 1 and a 4, you do not "qualify" and automatically lose. Note that the 1 and 4 that you need to qualify do not count towards your score.

Come on! Get me a 6!
You must take one or more dice every roll. After you take the dice you want to keep, you may re-roll the dice that are not kept to get new numbers to choose from. After you have chosen to keep all six dice, you will be brought to a screen where you can see if you won or not. To win, you must have the qualifying 1 and 4, and have the highest score in the game.
Bilge Dice is also one of the few games with two high score tables and sets of trophies; one for total earnings and the other for the highest win streak.
Payout
If you win, you get four times your ante amount; that is, your ante plus three times that. If you tie, you get your ante back. If you lose, you do not get any Neopoints.
If you are particularly lucky, when you collect your winnings you will also receive a bonus 1000 neopoints. However, this is an incredibly rare event and not likely to occur on a regular basis.
There are, however, several ante amounts; if you've never played Bilge Dice before, you'll start with the choices of 10 and 50. From then on, you get higher choices as you win more games. You can unlock additional antes by achieving specific feats:
- 100 NP: 10 wins
- 200 NP: 4-win streak
- 500 NP: 50 wins
- 1000 NP: 150 wins
When your scores are reset at the end of each month, your total game count is not reset. This means that you don't need to break your neck trying to win all 150 games in one month to unlock the highest ante. (Thanks to CrisAnn for clearing that up for us.)
There's a daily winnings limit of 5,000 NP. After this point you can continue to play without paying, but you won't win any Neopoints, either. If you like to play Bilge Dice for profit, you can win more than 5,000 NP in a day with a high-scoring round just before you reach the five thousand mark, i.e. winning on a 1000 NP ante when you've already won 4,990.
Strategy
When playing, you shouldn't try to get four 6's right off the bat; instead, it's better to first aim for the necessary 1 and 4. Even if you get a 5, 4, 4, and 3 for your score (16 total), you still have a slight chance of winning; you can't win if the last two dice you roll aren't a 1 and 4. It mainly depends on how your opponents are scoring, of course; make sure to always keep an eye on them. They could be scoring really high or really low, so it's best to play your game based on how well (or badly) they're doing.
Avatars
There are two avatars you can get from this game. One of them is randomly awarded when you score a "perfect" game; this requires you to get the necessary 1 and 4 and then go on to get a string of four sixes. Though as I said this is random; you might get the avatar the first time you achieve this, or it might take you hundreds of games like this. It really is completely random.
The second avatar is probably one of the most desired on the entire site, as it requires a large amount of luck to achieve (although being good at the game can only improve your chances). In order to unlock it you must amass a streak of ten victories. All 10 victories must be within the same calendar month. When scores are reset on the first of the month your streak will be wiped clean, so if you're sitting on a run of 8 or 9 games you will need to finish it off before the end of the month. (Thanks to Farmerluk for reminding us.)
