So many problems and I don't know where to start:

1. Paywall AND gacha species-specific items
2. Profit off another IP
3. Associate beloved IP with gacha
4. Price the mini cap at 200 NC instead of the usual 150
5. No bundle discount

4 and 5 are my least concerns. It's disgusting to think that a player may buy 5 caps and get 5 tails. What are they going to do with them? It's also funny (in a bad way) that the clothing set based on their own IP is NP, while the clothing set based on external IP is NC. They are self aware I guess.

so many problems with the new kougra capsule... that's literally just a cash grab, and a gambling one at that. we still have no clear odds and chances posted for these. and the outfit itself looks like it belongs as a np outfit in cog's togs. @stormmonarch is also right, the price is raised and there is no bundle discount for them. wow. just wow.

I feel like for a species specific outfit the gotcha style doesn't make much sense, it would've been better as a superpack like they used to do, but at a lower price cause it's only wearable by one species. Like 350-400 NC

whoever came out with this idea and whoever greenlit should never cook again.

also, it's a mascot type outfit, meaning -- you can just have 1 piece of the outfit... you need all 3 pieces for it to look right. so it's not like you can gamble with just 1 cap if you want a catbus... you'd need to buy at least 3 caps and pray to the rng gods you get the complete fit... so that's at least 6 bucks.................. IF you're lucky for a catbus ONLY

A Kougra-only outfit.. locked behind Neocash...
A species-specific outfit... Neocash.. WHAT?!

It's been annoying me for a WHILE that they still split up these outfits in 3+ parts because they look HORRIBLE without each other and often don't even fit the base model at all... so just make the whole thing one item.. But now on top of that, NOT only are they now locked behind Neocash, but in a CAPSULE so it's a gamba whether or not you even get all parts of the outfit... WOWWW.

I agree a superpack would've made much more sense, but even that would've been a dung thing to do. Make the catbus NP and the other items NC? That I can agree with.

My brain hadn't even fully processed the fact that you'd need to buy AT LEAST 3 capsules to even TRY for the full outfit until I read inkpot's comment above. And 200 NC each?????

I've been a player for almost 2 decades. Premium member for almost 2 decades. But the way they continue to turn everything into a cash grab, and constantly shove Premium into everyone's faces etc.. it makes me want to quit. This is going to far!!

Outside of just being gross in general, that capsule is a terrible idea from a legal standpoint. Making a "free" (NP-only) reference outfit is one thing, but making it paid is always going to run the risk of a lawsuit.

I'm at least glad almost no one on the NCC seems to be talking about them or seeking swaps, as if they're all collectively ignoring it and pretending it doesn't exist

This is an entirely new level of ... suckery that I can't abide. What on earth are they thinking?!? Who is going to buy this capsule? The vast majority of players can't even use most of the items!! They've totally lost the plot. *200NC*?

Please, people, do not reward this behavior by buying this monstrosity!

And all this after lag that has been destroying the experience of Neopets for everyone. READ THE ROOM, TNT!

That quite apart from the fact that this is as overt an IP copy that I can even imagine. I've been enjoying some of the semi-subtle nods to Ghibli and others (that Spirited Away-ish midnight food stalls BG was excellent), but it becomes a LOT less exciting and a LOT less cool when it's an explicit copy, and put in the NC mall.

This is really disgusting and I am honestly considering cancelling my premium and leaving the site. I buy a ton of NC, but this set belongs in Cog's Togs, not the NC mall. They are releasing it as a gacha no less? Wow. The greed is off the charts. I really thought TNT was better than this.

I'm in love with the Catbus [Nekobasu], though I do wish it was NP like all the other Ghibli related Outfit sets have been.
It's my Birthday today on Kougra Day and I was super excited about this being released until finding out its an NC Gamba and not all of us can afford to buy NC for items.

Polka dot is OK, I think the Kougra is one where they could have done a wild animal color but I do like that they did the traditional polka dot and the pink stripes are pretty.

The Catbus outfit though; no, just no. They shouldn’t put a species exclusive outfit behind a paywall like that. I wouldn’t mind if they’d split things up with the Catbus outfit and umbrella being NP and the background and soot creatures being NC though. Also I wish they’d go back to doing superpacks for outfits instead of the gatcha capsules.

I liked the new stuff from Kougra Day, and I don't see anything wrong with the NC capsule. Neopets is a website that we access and play for free, and any game that we play for free that is official will have paid stuff. After all, do you want the website to work or not? Money helps with that if you don't know, since having money you can hire more people 😅, about suing, I don't think that will happen, Studio Ghibli doesn't seem to mind people using it, since the studio didn't say anything about the AI images with their style.

As a related side note the only new NC wearable items they’ve released for direct purchase since the end of January have been the three monthly collectible items. Everything else has been in time limited capsules, grams, ticketed items (like the neggs), linked to premium, or styles. Other than the premium items they all are linked to an aspect of gambling. The last deluxe item (that we complained about the pricing tiers for) was January 30th as far as I can tell.
NC has become exclusively a gatcha system and we literally can’t get odds disclosed nor guaranteed pulls after a certain amount opened like literally every other gatcha game that exists.
It’s actually not legal to do this in quite a few countries since it’s literal gambling

At least with grams you get to pick the item you want and even send it to friends without the need for a gift box, the only gambling aspect is if you want the LE. But I hadn't really noticed either until you pointed it out that we haven't really had any "normal" releases for quite a while now o.o

Also... a Deja vu, I recall when in regular news we wouldn't get more NPs wereables but only NC wereables, making NP clothes mostly exclusive to events, and even then those where scarse and very thematic, so harder to combine in regular customs.... wonder if we are heading back to that era... two NC set of clothes per pet day, and a random NP thing.. food, book, gift...

If they're really that desperate for money, why don't they just start a GoFundMe and show some of the plans they have for the site? Surely people would be more willing to support that.

The problem is they're in kind of a catch-22 situation where people don't want to support them unless the site is functioning... but a functioning site costs money. So what are they supposed to do?

Why did they keep the outline around the stripes? They realise the definition of "stripes" means-... nah, TNT employed artist/s know/s best. It's almost like they just coloured the Photoshop default template outline because they either fluked their way into the position or they're much too close to the images and they're now being churned out too fast. Either way doesn't look awesome for TNT, I know they're all about turning the entire site into a mobile game cash cow but the "nostalgia" banner they were swinging when looking for investors is a double-edged sword, it requires artists, real artists, who care about creating images of Neopets and art.

Actually I don’t think Miyazaki has weighed in on the AI slop, aside from obviously Studio Ghibli suing to get the AI filter removed. The quote that’s attributed to him about AI is actually about a different thing, some friends of his had been experimenting with trying to get an AI to draw and animate a human but they hadn’t given it data about how humans move so the AI had generated a human figure but then had it crawling and writhing across the floor in a way that was fairly horrifying. Miyazaki thought the program, which had given no thought to how humans actually move or feel and produced something so torturous looking, was an insult to life itself. AI has come a long way since then so he may have changed his mind, although he’s also famously averse to adopting new technologies so probably not.

Pet day / specific species capsules are disgusting , the concept that is. Sorry but this is an L *shrug*
The set should have been neopoint. We had 7 capsules and 2 grams in the NC mall all at the same time about 2 weeks ago, the release of money items is getting way out of hand. I know we are not forced to buy things, but FOMO is a thing.

I just really hate the precedent this sets. Species wearables have always been NP. It really is just so upsetting that they are adding another thing behind a paywall. Especially with the cap system where you might have to by 10 caps to even get everything. Didn't they announce they were finally in the green? I truly hope they reconsider this for future releases.

People have short memories, man...rememeber NFTs? the eternity of 3/4 years ago? and how the playerbase was entirely against them but TNT didn't care until after NFTs were no longer cool? The cool thing now is unfortunately 'money at any cost'. Funnily enough, almost poetically, every corner of the site is now a cash cow. Milk those premium suckers for everything that was free before. To hell with morals. MONEYYY! Keep supporting them, guys!

They used to sometimes promise wearable conversions but you keep renewing faster than they can convert, wild. This TNT has purchased the legacy of nostalgia lol. Not earnt it, but they bought out the last guys n had a great showcase infront of investors.

I think a happy medium would've been to release a full np outfit for cogs, and then do a nc pet day themed cap,like this one could've had kougra themed items any pet could wear, like a plushie, or items that popular npcs wear, idk anything besides putting the entire species specific wearable behind a paywall.

This really makes me feel sick. It's so clearly a full outfit with accessories made for a species specific pet that's meant to be available with NP, and yet they would put a timer on it, give it a gambling mechanic, AND charge real money for it? Jeez, it seems like anytime this TNT makes an earnest effort to listen to its player base, they immediately come out and slap everyone across the face by crossing lines that older TNTs never would have dared to toe. Hopefully they rethink doing this again going forward, as it's been suggested they're planning to do this for other pets soon.

Forget the gacha and the gambling, what struggling IP in their right mind would monetize copyright infringement of another IP's work?? This is begging for a lawsuit and I have no compunction about making it known to studio ghibli the fact that neopets is profiting off of their creative output. Imagine how TNT would feel if someone suddenly made a movie that featured neopets characters and none of them ever received a check? This isn't just a bad business model, it's pure idiocy.
